Boosting Malaysia’s Aeropsace Industry with the launch of KarbonMRO Hangar and Karbon Engine Services

Shah Alam, Malaysia, 8 May 2025 – KarbonMRO Services Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Malaysia’s homegrown Dviation Group and Marubeni Corporation of Japan, today officially launched its commercial aircraft and engine maintenance facilities, marking a major milestone in the company’s growth and commitment to advancing Malaysia’s aerospace Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) industry. The launch event was officiated by YBhg Datuk Hanafi Sakri, Deputy Secretary General (Industry), Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, alongside esteemed industry leaders and partners.

A Vision for Growth and Innovation

KarbonMRO (KMRO) is the product of a joint venture between Dviation Group, a renowned leader in aviation technical solutions, and Marubeni Corporation, one of the world’s largest trading and investment conglomerates. This strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone in the aviation industry and is set to revolutionize the Asia-Pacific region’s aviation landscape.

In his officiating remarks, YBhg Datuk Hanafi Sakri highlighted the role of strategic industry players like Dviation and Marubeni in supporting Malaysia’s aspirations to become a global aerospace powerhouse. He noted that investments in MRO infrastructure and technical expertise are critical for the country’s economic growth and competitiveness in the aviation sector. He said:

“The aviation industry thrives on collaboration and strategic partnerships. Today’s launch is a testament to what can be achieved when industry leaders, government bodies, and global partners come together to advance a shared vision.”

“Dviation Group’s partnership with Marubeni Corporation reflects the importance of cross-border collaboration in driving technological expertise and global best practices. Such partnerships ensure that Malaysia continues to attract high-value investments and strengthen its aerospace supply chain. Today is not just about celebrating a new facility—it is about laying the foundation for Malaysia’s aviation future. It is about ensuring sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience in a dynamic global industry.”

Strengthening Malaysia’s Position as an Aviation MRO Hub

KarbonMRO’s latest venture reinforces Malaysia’s standing as a key MRO hub in the Asia-Pacific region, providing world-class aircraft and engine maintenance solutions to airlines, operators, and lessors. Its newly renovated hangar facility, located at Skypark RAC in Subang Airport, can accommodate two single-aisle aircraft simultaneously for maintenance and is certified by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to perform maintenance on both Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft types.

The facility is fully equipped to handle a wide range of airframe maintenance services, from scheduled maintenance visits to specialised structural repairs and modifications, as well as aircraft part-out and teardown services. This positions KMRO as a boutique outfit in the region, with its suite of solutions covering the aircraft and engine lifecycle – from entry-into-service to end-of-life.

At the same time, its engine maintenance facility, marketed under Karbon Engine Services (KES), adds a new dimension to KMRO’s capabilities by offering a bespoke suite of engine maintenance services, including QEC replacements, quick-turn repairs, and engine preservation. KES’s facility, which is also certified by CAAM to perform maintenance on the CFM56 engine types, can accommodate up to six engines simultaneously for both maintenance and teardown services.

During his keynote address, Kevin Teoh, Group Managing Director of Dviation Group, emphasized the company’s vision and commitment to excellence:

“The hangar we stand in today is more than just a building—it is the physical representation of our commitment to growth, innovation, and excellence. It allows us to expand our capabilities and offer a broader range of MRO services that meet international standards.”

“As we look ahead, our ambition is clear: to make Malaysia a regional leader in MRO services—one that is rooted in expertise, recognised globally, and powered by passion.”

On the topic of workforce, Teoh added, “We believe that the future of aviation must be built on talent. We remain committed to workforce development, working with institutions, regulators, and industry partners to upskill and reskill the next generation of aviation professionals. This is how we ensure the long-term sustainability of our industry.”

Looking Ahead: Driving Excellence in Aviation MRO

As part of the partnership’s collective goals, KarbonMRO remains committed to delivering innovative MRO solutions, investing in workforce development, and adopting cutting-edge technologies to meet the aviation industry’s ever-evolving needs. The company continues to work closely with global and regional partners to enhance operational efficiencies, reduce maintenance costs, and support the sustainability goals of airlines and lessors.

This expansion not only strengthens KarbonMRO’s position as a premier aviation MRO provider but also underscores its mission to elevate Malaysia’s aviation sector on the global stage.
